Dieting!!!! NO WAY!!!

Dieting v.s Healthy Choices
How many times have you heard "it's award season and it's time for me to go on my diet"? Okay, so maybe you haven't heard any of your personal friends say it but I'm sure you've heard your fav celebrity say it. I'm sure you or someone you know have said similar things when it's time to take a vacation or go to your high school reunion. Why do we obsess over looking skinny? Why do we put so much pressure on our bodies and our mental health in order to "look good" for one night? Shouldn't the focus be based around our overall health? The obvious answer is yes but when diet culture is everywhere you look, it's hard to decipher what's healthy and what isn't.

Diet culture is a term used to describe many things that center around food and health. The issue with diet culture is simple. It's so broad and depending on who you ask, it can mean a multitude of things. Not to mention, there are so many diets to choose from! Just about every single one of them claim to be the better option. You have keto, which is a low carb diet that includes foods such as meats, cheeses and low carb veggies. There's vegetarian, which includes fruits and veggies and limited animal products. The list goes on for at least six eons!

Which diet is the best option? Honestly that's for you and your doctor to decide. Don't let fad diets and the media control how you see yourself. I know that's easier said than done but, no one that waits a week before an event to starve themselves should be a standard of anything. Making healthy choices are the key to a successful healthy lifestyle. It's as simple as eating an apple instead of a honey bun for a snack. Choosing vinaigrette instead of a cream based dressing for your salad. Take the stairs instead of the elevator at least once a day or park your car further away from the door. Just remember to always listen to your body and put your mental health at the top of the list and making healthy choices will start to come easier each and every day.
